1. April means tree caterpillar season and for the third or fourth year in a row, the girls made pets out of them. Caroline first collected Jenny, Fred and George in our butterfly container. After they survived a night indoors (and a lot of handling!), Jenna added Voldemort, Belatrix, Hermione and Dumbledore to her bug box. The fuzzy, little guys and gals enjoyed a hand-made playground (see below), hand feedings, a car ride or two, and one lucky caterpillar couple even got a wedding ceremony.
2. With Jenna's prompting, we had a dress-up dinner night. It's been awhile since we've had one. Jenna came as Oprah, but Bryan and I couldn't guess who she was only because we had no idea she knew who Oprah is. Caroline is a quasi-medieval queen (we watched short youtube videos of the Queen in Shakespeare in Love earlier in the day).
Bryan and I came as each other. :)
3. The girls and I went to Mammoth Cave with the Stratemeyers. We all loved it. Jenna raised her hand during the tour and asked if anybody had died in Mammoth Cave. We found out that yes, there have been deaths, but he didn't tell us how many. We hiked around afterwards and Caroline and Sophie secretly pretended they were in a movie.
4. We kept up with the Decorah Eagles online for the third or fourth year in a row. Jenna especially enjoys the chatting. Below was our attempt to make a nest with the same measurements as the Decorah eagle parents (5 feet high and 6 feet wide). Jenna looks very Eagle-like.
5. Caroline embroidered a cat she drew for Grandma Susie's birthday on April 8th.
6. This doesn't really count as a project, but Jenna and I got so tickled when I put a price tag on Purcilla as one of Jenna's math problems. P. stopped giving herself a bath only briefly, not seeming to care in the least that she was on sale for 25% off.
7. Jenna is practicing LOTS of Vivaldi for her recital in May. She selected a song she had never played before, the hardest one yet, requiring her to work on it with both her violin teachers to be ready for the recital in time.
8. Lots of reading including this little picture book C found at the library. I had no idea Winnie the Pooh was based on a real bear! We also enjoyed "Castle," which led to some Minecraft building.

10. Josh Coffey asked Jenna if she wanted to participate in the instrument "petting zoo" at the Carson Center. She LOVED it. She started asking as soon as we left when and if she could go again. She showed bunches of students in McCracken County how to hold and make noise on the violin. She also made a few older friends, including one of my students to the left. They all played together during the breaks. 
11. LOTS of chicken pictures like the ones below, videos and observing and discussing nesting box and other crazy chicken behavior.

13. The girls each picked out something to sew out of a sweet, little book Caroline received for her birthday. They've yet to finish them, though.
