A few reasons why I love September...

1. It is cool enough to return to the woods and explore (uh...but not so cool that we don't have to strip down to our underwear afterwards and lint roll, tweezer, and scotch tape the dozens of seed ticks off of each other...but the kids think getting the ticks off with sticky stuff before they can attach is fun, so overall, this just adds to the outdoor experience).

2. The colors.

3. Totally neglected-by-this-point hardcore tomatoes still hanging on in the garden, and the bit of basil left too.

4. Homemade biscuits and applesauce.

5. Fires at night in the chiminea.

6. Firewood Action. Bryan and I love it, and we can get all-Frontier-House manic, for a few days at least.

7. Little House on the Prairie play picks up. Yeah, this really goes on year round, but we seem to see it even more frequently when fall rolls in and there is talk of fires and the Encampment and Indians. In above picture, "Pa" is firing his gun at a mean wolf, "Laura" is shouting some sort of directions at Pa, and "Mary" is trapped by an oncoming woods fire.

8. The animals on the go with us on our walks. Yeah, this is year round too. But we have been cooped up a lot in the air conditioning for three months, so they are really excited to be exploring with us again. Plus they are super awesome/funny and have such different personalities.

Ruby:  Maniac. Could go any direction at any time at top speed. Loves everybody.
Tucker:  Follows closely on our heels. Annoyed by Ruby.
Sadie: Loves to be in front, but too polite to pass if she falls behind sniffing. Annoyed by Ruby.
Lola:  Hops along behind us, weaving on and off the path. Annoyed by Ruby and scared of Caroline. :)
